
Betty Abrams 82, of Calhoun, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at the Heartford House in Owensboro. Betty Sue Lohman was born March 19, 1942 in McLean County, Kentucky to the late James G. and Ida Beulah Durbin Lohman and was married to David Wayne Abrams on December 19, 1959. Betty lived a life marked by love, service, and an unwavering commitment to her family, faith and community.
Betty’s life was one of active engagement with her community. Though her primary vocation was as a homemaker—a role she cherished and excelled in—she also contributed her time and talents to Muster Coaches, delivering professional vehicles and assisting with promotional mailings. Her dedication to service continued at Muster Funeral Homes, where she provided comfort and support to families as a family service assistant. Betty also served on the Calhoun City Council for several terms.
Her community involvement was extensive and impactful. Betty was an active member of the Beech Grove / Glenville Homemakers, the Captain William Rowan Chapter of the Daughters of American Revolution, and the Daughters of the Confederacy. She served as McLean County coordinator for the Girl Scouts, nurturing and guiding young minds with patience and wisdom. Betty’s creative spirit shone through in her hobbies, which included crocheting, sewing, and arranging flowers—talents that brought beauty into the lives of those around her.
A woman of faith, Betty was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Calhoun, where her commitment to her spiritual community was recognized with the Sophia Award, an honor that celebrates those who embody the Christian spirit through acts of charity and service.
Betty’s memory will be honored and cherished through the stories shared, the laughter remembered, and the values she upheld. She lived her life as a beacon of love and generosity, touching countless lives with her gentle presence and benevolent spirit.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by a son, Michael Abrams; two brothers, James Lohman and John Lohman; and by her sister, Maxine Nesmith.
Betty is survived by her husband of 64 years, David Abrams; two sons, Jimmy Abrams (Claudia) of Owensboro and Mark Abrams (Susan) of Belleville, Illinois; two daughters, Kim Stiles (Mike) of Rumsey and Karen Tackett (Terry) of Winchester, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Abby Willis (Jake), Meg Tackett, SSGT Mary Abrams, Matt Ward (Nickie), and Britt McManaway (Eric); 4 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ed Lohman of Rumsey.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, October 21, 2024 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Calhoun. Burial will be in the Calhoun Cemetery in McLean County. Friends may visit with Betty’s family from 2:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. Sunday and from 8:00 A.M. until 9:30 A.M. Monday at Musters in Calhoun.
