
Waldemar “Dwight” Bratcher, Jr., 80 of Owensboro passed away October 15, 2024 at Hermitage Care and Rehabilitation Center. He grew up in Greenville and dearly loved Western KY. Dwight taught Literature at Alice Lloyd College in Pippa Passes, KY and later in Nashville at Tennessee State University and Volunteer Community College. He also worked for the Kentucky Heart Association, LG&E, and was a speech writer in Washington, DC. He loved Kentucky history, music, books, politics, B-westerns, and nature. Dwight attended First Baptist Church in Owensboro.
Dwight was preceded in death by his parents, W. D. and Pauline Bratcher of Greenville, SC and his daughter, Cynthia Bratcher.
Dwight is survived by his wife, Martha Bratcher; children, Andrea Furkin (Barry) and Scott Bratcher of Columbia, KY; sister, Pam Adelman of Owensboro; grandchildren, Jack Bratcher (Megan) of Cincinnati, OH and Rebecca Poppellwell (Jesse); and great grandchildren, Penelope and Gabriel, of Augusta, GA.
A private celebration of life will be held to honor Dwight’s life.
