DRAKESBORO, KY., Jacqueline Sue Pogue, 81, of Drakesboro entered her Heavenly home on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at her residence. She was born on August 22, 1943 in Drakesboro the daughter of the late Dawson and Elsie McDonald Smith. On July 1, 1960 she married the love of her life David Pogue and they were married for almost 55 years until the Lord called him home. Together they raised four children. David and Jackie owned Pogue’s Grocery in the 1970’s and she ran the store. In 1991 she graduated alongside two of her daughters from Beauty School and worked as a beautician. Jackie will be remembered for many things, but one her family will never forget is how good a cook she was. She never measured anything, but it always turned out perfect. Her Thanksgiving dressing was the best you would ever eat. Every Halloween her kids, grandkids, and great grands would look forward to one of her homemade popcorn balls. She loved cross stitch and embroidery in her leisure time. Many family members have works of art that she created for them. On any given warm day, you could find her sitting on her swing on the front porch. She loved summer and being outside. Like her mother, she was known for having the largest and most beautiful hydrangeas around. She loved flowers and gardening. She was a tiny woman with a huge personality, one of the strongest women you would ever meet and was known by everyone, family, friends, doctors, and nurses as a little spitfire. Her last days were spent surrounded by the ones she loved. Many days she would request to talk about the Lord and asked her family to read the Bible to her. We know she is safe in the arms of Jesus now.
She was preceded in death by her parents Dawson and Elsie Smith, husband David Pogue, Sr., a daughter Diana Putnam, a brother Dawson Ray Smith, a sister Sharon Kay Smith, and great grandson Barron Galyen.
She is survived by her daughters Beverly (Harold) Suttle and Teresa (Larry) Davis, a son David (Melody) Pogue, Jr., a sister Regina Adler, brothers Jeff (Martha) Smith and Howard (Pat) McDonald, grandchildren Michael (Ashley) Putnam, Michelle (Joshua) Dukes, Nick (Jilann) Suttle, Melissa (Adam) Alverson, Laci (Braden) Galyen, Adam Davis, Zack Tincher, Aaron (Elizabeth) Davis, Abby Davis; Lindy Wallace, great grandchildren Katie, Logan, Cayden, Rachel, Noah, Levi, Destiny, Aliah, Elsie, Zara, several nieces and nephews.
