With a chance to move up in the district standings, Apollo couldn’t hold onto their early 14-6 lead, falling to Graves County 46-28 on the road Friday.

After allowing a touchdown on Graves County’s opening drive, Apollo quarterback Maxwell Johnson found Landen Bratcher for a 35-yard touchdown and a 7-6 lead. On Graves County’s next drive, Bratcher showed off his versatility, picking off the opposing QB. Johnson capitalized on the turnover, running in a 5-yard touchdown to put Apollo up 14-6 with 2:27 left in the opening frame.

Apollo’s lead was short-lived as they allowed three touchdowns in the second quarter to enter halftime trailing 26-14. To start the second half, John Milburn returned the kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown to cut Graves County’s lead to five.

However, Apollo was unable to withstand Graves County’s second-half surge.

Apollo now heads into Fall Break for a bye week, allowing them to rest before turning their attention to Madisonville-North Hopkins.
