Local volleyball teams fare well over weekend

Regardless of who was in front of them, the E-Gals only dropped one set across their five matches en route to winning the Southern Kentucky Tournament. Going 5-0, Apollo beat South Laurel, Allen County Scottsville, Campbellsville, and Gallatin, before sweeping Adair County in the finals.

Abie Butterworth was the catalyst for the E-Gals, recording a team-high 47 kills while adding 26 digs, five service aces, and three blocks. Jessie Pate led the team in digs with 66, while Adelyn Dilback recorded eight service aces. Jessica Lee led the team with 53 assists, while Maddi Roberts added 43.

“Our team chemistry and energy stayed at a level throughout the tournament which is something we’ve been focusing on this week,” Apollo head coach Mary Howard said. “We played some tough teams today and our defensive effort was very solid. I couldn’t be prouder of the solid play by the girls all day long.”

All-A Classic

Competing at the All-A Classic, the Lady Aces went undefeated in Group A, before falling to Shelby Valley 2-1 (21-25, 25-17, 25-21). In pool play, the Lady Aces swept their three matches taking down Community Christian, Walton-Verona, and Green County. Olivia Castlen was named to the all-tournament team after leading her team with 48 kills across their four matches. The Lady Aces are now 12-3 on the season.

Thoroughbred Smash

Competing at Thoroughbred Smash, the Lady Red Devils finished 3-2 with wins against Paintsville Tate’s Creek, and Letcher Central. Their two losses came at the hands of Rylie and Lafayette.

Addie Travis led the way, finishing with a team-high 66 kills and 11 blocks, while adding 22 digs, and two service aces. Anna Travis recorded a team-high 70 assists and nine service aces, while Ava Fincher was the team leader in digs with 33.

“I’m very proud of how my team came out this weekend,” Owensboro head coach Melissa Hibbs said. “They played at a high level of intensity and remained aggressive throughout the weekend against some tough competition.”

Quad State

The Lady Raiders competed at Quad State, finishing fifth in the gold bracket.

“It was a great weekend for the Lady Raiders at Quad State,” Trinity head coach Brooke Hall said. “In each game we played this weekend you could see us working together, getting comfortable trying new things, and adjusting to different teams. I am very proud of the Lady Raiders.”
