Four local high schools are hosting their proms this weekend. With the downtown riverfront as a popular location for formal and informal pictures, several couples and groups choose to experience these restaurants for their prom dinner as well.
Collin MacQuarrie of Colby’s restaurant said that they have hosted many prom groups over the years and the one thing they have learned is that chicken tenders are the popular choice for the night, so they plan to have more on hand this weekend.
With only one prom scheduled for Friday night, MacQuarrie said Friday’s reservations were not full, but Saturday, the business will be filled with three high schools’ prom attendees.
“We are full from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.,” MacQuarrie said. “It’s good for the business and for the kids to see restaurants that are not chains. And it gives them a reason to be fancy.”
The Famous Bistro served promgoers last weekend and still has reservations available for Friday night. They are full Saturday night as well.
“They bring business and act very well and usually tip well, too,” Bistro front-of-the-house manager Logan Brown said.
He said that the teens order anything from steaks to pizzas and have a good time filling the restaurant.
Tiffany Whitten said that Lure will often serve a special menu for large groups so they can get them seated and fed in a reasonable time and that Lure has reservations available for both nights, but Saturday night is almost full.
Mellow Mushroom manager Serena Osborne said the restaurant will allow reservations for parties of 10 or more, and they also have a party room that can be rented.
She said that with a soccer tournament in town for the weekend, they were already pretty full Saturday, but that they have a few prom reservations for each night.
