The Owensboro girls’ soccer team held off a late surge from Muhlenberg County to pick up a much-needed road win 4-3 on Monday.
Just three minutes into the match, Ella Hall fed Lily Nieman who buried it for an early 1-0 lead. In the 24th minute, Georgia Warren found Amelia Calhoun for the team’s second goal. Eleven minutes later, Lily Paige scored Owensboro’s third goal of the half.
Tied 3-3 with 30 seconds left, Caroline Smith found the back of the net to send her team home happy. Goalie Hayley Sikes finished with five saves.
“We played a strong first half, ending 3-1,” Owensboro head coach Sarah Poole said. “Our possession looked better and we connected some good plays. We broke down in the second half and got a little sloppy, so we have to work on playing 100% for an entire game. We are happy for the win.”
