Competing against last year’s state champion in Sacred Heart Academy and other powerhouses, the Lady Panthers finished second at the Bowling Green Invitational on Saturday afternoon, shooting a 328.

Alexa Salamah scored the lowest on the team, shooting a 79, followed by Claire Reynolds, who shot an 80. Baylie Billingsley and Briley Billingsley rounded out the team’s top four scores, shooting 81 and 88.

On the boys’ side, Grant Broughton shot one over par and finished fifth overall in the individual. For the Red Devils, Jax Malone had the lowest score on the team, shooting 73.

“We went to the state championship course at Bowling Green Country Club today and finished top five versus the best of the best,” Owensboro head coach Pat Hume said. “We didn’t play our best, but we finished among the top teams, so that gives me positive vibes for the future.

Hume said his squad was disappointed because they knew they could play better.

“It’s time to get back to work in hopes of winning City-County,” Hume said. “Jax Malone finished in the top five today, and I am super proud of him and all of the guys. There is work still to be done.”
