Owensboro swept Hancock and Daviess County edged out McLean in a pair of local matchups, while Apollo beat Ohio County and Trinity fell short in Thursday’s volleyball action.
Apollo 3, Ohio County 1
Abie Butterworth has been the heartbeat for the E-Gals and that continued Thursday evening, recording 15 kills in her team’s 3-1 (18-25, 25-8, 25-16, 25-17) victory over Ohio County. Butterworth added eight digs, two service aces, and two blocks. Jessica Lee had a team-high 31 assists, while Jessie Pate finished with 12 digs and eight service aces.
“Ohio County has a very strong team and they were very aggressive at the net tonight,” Apollo head coach Mary Anne Howard said. “I thought our team bounced back from a tough loss and a late night on Tuesday to rally after our first set. We had great production from a variety of players tonight as well. I thought our defensive intensity picked up as the set went tonight. We served very efficiently – only making four service errors as a team in four sets.”
Owensboro 3, Hancock County 0
The Travis sisters continue to leave their stamp on the stat sheet, once again leading the way in their 3-0 (25-8, 25-16, 25-11) win over Hancock County. Addie Travis finished with 14 digs, 12 kills, three blocks, and two service aces while Anna Travis recorded 25 assists, seven service aces, four digs, two blocks, and a kill.
“I thought my team did a great job keeping their focus tonight,” Owensboro head coach Melissa Hibbs said. “We continued to play with a lot of energy.”
Daviess County 3, McLean County 1

Breckinridge County 3, Trinity 2
Kenzie McDowell, Caroline Hall, and Emily McDaniel led the Lady Raiders in assists, digs, and service aces with 25, 30, and five respectively, but they fell just short to Breckinridge County 3-2 (16-25, 25-19, 20-25, 25-19, 15-11). Addison Mills added nine kills and four blocks.
“We were inconsistent tonight, but we are ready to recharge and realign with our goals,” Trinity head coach Brooke Hall said. “I am excited to see what we will learn from this and how they will apply that to next week’s matches.”
