Apollo and Owensboro Catholic both shut out their respective opponents while Owensboro tied in Saturday’s slate of games.
Apollo 4, Muhlenberg County 0
Valor Smith scored twice, while teammates Ahmad Hanafi and Jason Perez also found the back of the net as Apollo shutout Muhlenberg County 4-0. Asukulu Juma, Colton Anderson, Utukufu Lukalula, and Noah Crider all recorded assists. Goalie Luke Mattingly finished with three saves.
“I was pleased with the quality and there were plenty of positives we have gone over in training,” Apollo head coach Nikos Agisilaou said. “We did some great things. It’s a process getting us prepared for future opponents.”
Owensboro 3, Calloway County 3
Trailing 1-0 early, the Red Devils roared back to take a 2-1 lead. Leading 3-2 with 12 seconds left, Calloway County tied it, ending the game in a draw. Jackson Siegler scored twice, while Ryan Sovar scored the team’s third goal and added two assists. Goalie Landon Black recorded 11 saves.
“Overall we moved the ball well,” Owensboro head coach Ryan Haley said. “I thought we controlled most of the game. Our team is still not 100 percent as we had our DCM out with injury.”
Owensboro Catholic 4, Butler County 0
The Aces offense peppered Butler County early and often, and the defense pitched a shutout in their 4-0 win. Owensboro Catholic finished with 25 shots, 11 on goal. JW Kurtz and Joseph Kurtz each scored two goals, while Owen Brey added three assists and Luke Pfeiler tallied one. Goalie Max Dawson made two saves in his clean sheet performance.
“It was a performance we’ve been threatening to do for a while now,” Owensboro Catholic head coach Andy Donohoe said. “The first half in particular had some outstanding build-up play. It was a strong team performance and a clean sheet to go with it. We’ll look to continue to build on things to kick on further as a team.”
