Owensboro Catholic and McLean County opened up the season with wins, while Daviess County and Hancock County fell short.

Grayson County 3, Daviess County 0

Maya Pollard recorded eight kills and Jzlynn Howard added eight assists as Daviess County dropped their season opener 3-0 to Grayson County.

“It was a tough night on the road for us. We came out flat and never found our rhythm,” Daviess County head coach Tyla Bailey said. We are not dwelling on it and we are ready to play Owensboro Catholic tonight.”

Ohio County 3, Hancock County 0

McLean County 3, Trigg County 0

Addy Kirby’s 15 kills, 11 assists, and six aces helped pave the way for McLean as they swept Trigg County 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-13) to start their season. Rachel Roberts also added eight kills and five aces, while Abbi Shivers recorded 11 assists.

“We played well tonight,” McLean head coach Traci Capps said. “I’d like us to clean and tighten up a little bit, but overall it was a solid opening win to start off the season.”

Owensboro Catholic 3, Bowling Green 1

Jaiden Grant led the way with 10 kills, two blocks, and an ace in Owensboro Catholic’s 3-1 (26-24, 9-25, 28-26, 25-20) season-opening win over Bowling Green. The Lady Aces recorded 11 aces in a balanced night from the offense. Mayme Powell posted a team-high 15 assists while also adding three digs, two kills, two assists, and two aces. Tyranda Stuart finished with seven kills and a team-high 14 digs.

“We played really well in the first set,” Owensboro Catholic head coach Brian Hardison said. We dropped the second set due to unforced errors, but we were able to regroup and win the third and fourth sets. We played well enough to rotate players showing our versatility.”
