Apollo and Daviess County won their season openers over district rivals, while McLean County fell short.

In their season opener, Apollo shut out Owensboro Catholic 8-0 behind a hat trick from Dalleigh Sullivan. Kara Green and Jada Pollard added each two goals a piece, while Millie Hill was also able to find the back of the net. Lilli Ruth recorded five assists, while Kara Green and Cing Kiim added one each.
“I was really impressed with the performance from the girls tonight. It’s a good starting point,” head coach Zach Akin said. “The concepts and ideas that we’ve been working on through the summer and preseason came through tonight. It’s definitely a performance we can build on moving forward and a great way to start the season and district play.”

Landry Humphrey scored McLean’s only goal of the game on a direct kick in their season-opening loss. Keeper Emily LeBlanc recorded double-digit saves and had her team only down 2-0 at the half. However, they didn’t have any substitutes and the team ran out of gas down the stretch.
“The team works hard and has shown improvement since the scrimmage,” head coach Ricky Humphrey said. Our goal is to improve each game and so far they are doing well.”
