After two years at the University of Louisville, Joseph “Jo” Griffin is transferring to Kentucky Wesleyan College, announced by men’s basketball head coach Drew Cooper on Thursday afternoon. Griffin is the nephew of Wesleyan standouts Jim and Tim Griffin.
“I’m anticipating that Jo adds an immediate punch to our rotation,” Cooper said. “He has all the physical tools to be an impact player at Wesleyan. He is quick off his feet, has a motor and is offensively sound. I think Owensboro will fall in love with him.”
Griffin was a three-time 29th District All-Tournament Team member and 8th Region Player of the Year while at South Oldham High School. A 2017 Kentucky Mr. Basketball finalist, Griffin averaged 21.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.3 assists his senior year.
He finished his high school career with 1,233 points, ranking second all-time in school history. Upon graduation Griffin committed to Louisville, where he saw action in 15 games over two seasons. The Cardinals posted a 42-28 record over the last two seasons.
“I had a great experience at the University of Louisville and I am forever grateful for that opportunity,” Griffin said. “I am very excited for this next step in my basketball career at Kentucky Wesleyan and I am ready to get to work.”
