Erma Louise Millay

Erma Louise Millay, 92, of Knottsville, was reunited with her departed loved ones on July 4, 2024 following a lengthy illness.

Fulfilling a lifelong dream, she went from stay-at-home mom and farm wife to registered nurse, enrolling in her 40s at Kentucky Wesleyan College. She then worked as an RN for some 20 years. Erma was a member of St. Williams Catholic Church, where she was an Altar Society member, and co-leader of the 4-H Club. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and games of chance.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Alma Fleischmann of Browns Valley; and siblings Martin, Ann, Jody, Edwina, Bonnie, Vickie and Sister Lorena Fleischmann.

She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Joseph Claude Millay. In August they were to be honored as the diocese’s longest married couple.

Other survivors include four children: Carmen “Kit” Fullenlove Barry of Louisville; Chris Millay (Linda Alvey) of Owensboro; Claudia Abrams (Jimmy) of Owensboro; and Jamie Millay (Cindy) of Knottsville; four grandchildren Matt Ward (Nickie) of Philpot; Rachel Rodriguez (Xavier) of Fort Novosel, Alabama; Brittanni McManaway (Eric) of Reynolds Station and Travis Fuchs of Newburgh, Indiana; eight great-grandchildren Jada Rodriguez of Maryville, California; Ryan and Gracie Ward of Philpot; Lauren Whitworth of The Woodlands, Texas; Samantha Whitworth of Boston, Massachusetts; Ashton and Kash Fuchs of Newburgh, Indiana and Adriana Rodriguez of Fort Novosel, Alabama; two siblings, Gene Fleischmann of Owensboro and Charlene Williams of Huntsville, Alabama; and many nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to Annette Howard for her tender, loving care.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, July 11 at Cecil Funeral Home, Whitesville, with prayers at 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 12 at St. William Catholic Church, Knottsville, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
