Ellis Park operated as usual on Friday after closing on to the public on Thursday’s opening day due to unexpected water issues.

“Thank you to our staff, the local Henderson community, and racing fans for their patience as we dealt with an unexpected water issue caused by storms on Wednesday evening,” General Manager Matt Pressley said. “We’re looking forward to seeing everyone at the track today.

Officials said Wednesday night’s storm caused a power issue that knocked out the water. The water tank could fill up to a level to keep racing operations on as usual but not to a level to open the grandstand for patrons.

“This was a really difficult decision we had to make this morning, but due to an unscheduled maintenance issue, we have to conduct today’s race card without patrons,” Pressley said of the event. “We are still going to run all nine races as scheduled and update everyone as soon as possible when the facility will be back open to fans.”

Fans can now watch Ellis Park races live at the track or on www.tinspires.com, FanDuel TV, and the Churchill Downs LIVE app on smart TVs.

Ellis Park Racing and Gaming is located in Henderson, KY, just north of the Ohio River. It’s been the home of summer thoroughbred racing in Kentucky for over 100 years, traditionally launching the summer campaign on the Fourth of July. The venue now features a gaming entertainment venue with approximately 300 historical racing machines.
