Another free “Brown Bag Lunch Concert” is taking place Tuesday, July 9, this time featuring organist James Wells.
Trinity Episcopal Church (720 Ford Ave.) will host the lunch concert from 12:15 to 1 p.m. Concertgoers are invited to bring their own lunch to enjoy during the program.
Music selections include J.S. Bach, Mendelssohn, Vaughn Williams, and others. Wells will also offer an organ demonstration.
Wells is a native of Kentucky and a 2014 graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan College. He has been the music director at Saint Stephen Cathedral since 2015. He also serves as a collaborative
pianist at Kentucky Wesleyan College and is the rehearsal accompanist for the Owensboro
Symphony Chorus. Beyond that, he is the Artistic Director for the Institute for Young Musicians and operates a private teaching studio.
The free lunchtime concert series was started in 2018 by Kentucky Wesleyan College Clarinet Professor Kirsten Ahnell. Ahnell’s intent is to bring music to the public. The programs are mostly classically oriented and feature small groups of musicians.
“Some people think classical music is dying or the general public has no interest in the genre,” Ahnell said. “Since there is such a wide variety of classical music, I feel there is something for everyone.”
Ahnell acts as a moderator for the programs to help enlighten the audience. She has the musicians speak about the composers and pieces they are performing, discuss their instruments, and answer questions from the audience after the program.
