Empty Bowls of Owensboro is accepting applications for their annual grant to help combat food insecurity in Daviess County. The organization plans to raise funds through their annual fundraiser dinner and silent auction.

The application is open on their website here and will close on July 31, 2024.

At last year’s fundraiser the organization raised $34,000 which was split between First Christian Church and King’s Table.

Organizations that apply need to have some effort toward food insecurity in Owensboro-Daviess County and the recipient must use the funds toward said efforts.

Applicants should be organizations that demonstrate a strong commitment to addressing the root causes of hunger, providing sustainable solutions, and promoting long-term food security in Daviess County. Empty Bowls of Owensboro is particularly interested in supporting initiatives that focus on community engagement, education, and innovative approaches to combating food insecurity.

They are also accepting donations for the silent auction. Any person or organization wishing to donate an item or basket for the silent auction is encouraged to reach out to the committee by email at [email protected].

The dinner and auction will take place Thursday, October 17 from 6-8 p.m. in the lobby of the RiverPark Center.

Approximately 350 tickets will be available this fall for $20 each. Any remaining tickets that do not pre-sale online will be made available at the door the evening of the event.

At the dinner, attendees will select a ceramic bowl from hundreds of handcrafted bowls made for the event by local artisans, community members and Brescia University students.
