Holiday World is a summer tradition for many and with opening day just around the corner in early May, local families are ready for the roller coasters, water park and free soft drinks. But for some children, the fun Holiday World offers can come with overstimulation.

In an effort to serve guests with special needs who could benefit from a quiet, relaxing break from the park’s sensory stimulation, Holiday World created a calming room three years ago.

In recognition of World Autism Awareness Day, Holiday World posted a video of the room on social media, reminding guests of its availability.

The room includes bean bag chairs, a small tent, rocking chair, couch and adjustable lighting to allow for a calm respite from the park’s activities. The calming room is located in the First Aid building (the red-roofed building in Splashin’ Safari’s plaza), and can be reserved for 30-minute sessions on a first come, first served basis at guest relations or first aid.

Paula Werne, director of communications for Holiday World, reminds guests to visit the park’s accessibility page and the 2019 Accessibility Guide, where the can find information to help with planning their visit, including height and weight limits, health restrictions, cast information, pool-water depth, location of manual-flush toilets and more.
