General Election candidates throughout Daviess County races

The candidates for Owensboro-Daviess County’s November local elections have officially been announced with city and county school boards and other municipal boards.

All candidates are listed in their ballot order for the General Election.

Owensboro’s mayoral race has been narrowed to two after incumbent Mayor Tom Watson and current City Commissioner Pamela Smith-Wright received 68% of the vote in the primary — 36.30% and 31.92%, respectively. 

Eight of the nine candidates in the City Commission race also moved forward, including Rafe Buckner, Mark S. Castlen, Tyler L. Goad, Jeff Sanford, Sharon G. NeSmith, Bob Glenn, Curtis Maglinger, and Robert Morris.

Owensboro Public Schools and Daviess County Public Schools are seeing an election for their respective school boards. OPS has three seats up for election, with the top three vote-getters receiving the seats. The candidates include:

  • Melissa Akemi Decker
  • Tyler Sagardoy
  • Leigh Rhoads Doyal
  • Jeremy Edge
  • Kenny Riley

DCPS also has three seats up for election, and districts are separate. Districts 3 and 4 are uncontested races, with Tammy McCubbins Rice and Frank G Riney III as the lone contenders, respectively.

District five for DCPS includes the following candidates:

  • Dale Stewart
  • John M “Trey” Pippin III
  • Timothy Hicks

The Daviess County Commonwealth Attorney and Circuit Court Clerk races are uncontested, and Mike Van Meter and Jennifer Hardesty Besecker are both seeking the positions.

The City of Whitesville also sees a six-person City Commission race for their four-seat Commission. The race includes the following individuals:

  • Clarence Jullian Merritt
  • Pamela “Pam” Merritt
  • Greg Beyke
  • Joseph “Buddy” Mattingly Jr.
  • Shawn Trevor Crabtree
  • Jackie Bickett
