Bob McDole wanted to open a gun store in Owensboro roughly a decade ago but ultimately opted not to at the time. Now, he says he’s confident the community wants another gun store and he’s planning to open 270 Tactical by the end of summer.
McDole said the store, located at 1737 Scherm Road, will be stocked full of firearms, ammo, and accessories. He doesn’t know a specific date just yet but is shooting to be open by August 1.
This won’t be McDole’s first gun store venture. He and his family have owned a gun business in Huntsville, Alabama, since 2017.
“We saw the opportunity to open a business in Owensboro, and the feedback has been extremely positive. People are excited about it,” McDole said.
He said there is a big market in Owensboro but people are currently traveling to stores in Greenville and Bowling Green to make their firearms purchases due to the lack of a local store. McDole hopes to not only provide something for local residents, but to also draw people from across the area to Owensboro.
McDole said his goal with the business is to offer products at a reasonable price and combine that with great customer service.
He said he’s confident Owensboro will support 270 Tactical as it does all other local businesses.
“Owensboro is not like other cities. Every city has its own characteristics and the way they want to buy. I’m very, very happy with our team. We have a store manager with 25 years of experience in this area so she knows what this area wants and what we plan on providing,” McDole said.
He noted the store will include a coffee bar and will try to offer a “fun but unique experience” for customers as they shop.
“We want to do something a little different,” McDole said. “But again, we want to tailor it around the needs of Owensboro, Daviess County and surrounding areas.”
