If you’ve grown accustomed to The Red Door Salon & Boutique, you may be wondering why its staple red door is now black. It’s because of a merger with Adorn Salon & Boutique, whose owner Haley Ling said the best parts of the two businesses will remain alive in the suite.

Ling operated Adorn just a couple of spaces down from The Red Door and began hosting a booth inside the suite in March. So when conversations came up about passing the torch on the space, Ling felt comfortable with the relationship there.

Though she will move her business into the space at 105 East 18th Street, she said she doesn’t want to “take over” the business. With the legacy that The Red Door has built over 20 years, Ling said she still wants to honor the foundation they have laid.

“I don’t want people to feel like it’s me taking over a whole new place. I want it to still feel like it’s always been. So I feel like we’ve done that pretty well, and it helps that we’re all good friends,” Ling said. “…It’s nothing new, just a new space for us, but the same friendships.”

Ling said nothing would change about the business, aside from the iconic red door, so the same stylists, makeup artists, and technicians will remain. In addition, they will keep the space layout similar to how it’s been.

The benefit of this location for Ling will be the size of the sales floor, which they can fill with boutique items. She said they will also house Cryo Body Creation.

“We have clients that come in every day waiting to get their hair done, or they just got their hair done, and they come up and shop. It helps all of our businesses out, and we all have something different for everybody,” Ling said.

Having a business model like this amplifies what the businesses can do together, Ling said.

In honor of their reopening on Wednesday, Ling said they would host a celebration complete with giveaways, door prizes, and sales throughout the building. They will also have Basil’s Food Truck serving food around lunchtime.

Adorn Salon & Boutique is open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
