Track and Field recap (June 2): KHSAA State Championships

The KHSAA State Track and Field Championships saw Daviess County’s women’s team place 34th and Apollo’s women’s team place 37th in the Class 3A, and Owensboro Catholic’s women’s team placed 24th while the men’s team placed 40th. Owensboro, Owensboro Catholic, Apollo, and Daviess County all had athletes and relay teams compete in various events. Apollo, Daviess County and Owensboro Catholic all had athletes with top 10 finishes as well. 

AHS 

The E-gals tied for 37th in the women’s ranking with 3 points, and they had 3 relay teams compete as well. The boys’ 4×800 relay team placed 11th and the girls’ 4×100 relay team placed 12th. The boys’ 4×100 relay were in prime position for a top 10 finish, but a dropped baton caused them to be disqualified. Mary Ann Lyons put up a season best for a top 10 finish in discus and was one place off of making the top 5. 

Apollo had multiple athletes compete in various events individually as well. The individual performances included: 

  • Mary Ann Lyons: 6th in discus (SB 105-7), 19th in shot put (SB 30-2.75)
  • Demetrius Holloway: 11th in 300m hurdles (SB 41.50)
  • Emmitt Brock: 12th in 800m run (SB 2:00.41)
  • Emily Bertke: 14th in 200m dash (26.33)
  • Analea Sanders: 15th in 100m dash (12.71), 17th in long jump (15-5)
  • Noah Gray: 18th in 3200m run (10:11.39)

DCHS

Daviess County’s women’s team tied for 34th place in the women’s rankings with 4 points, and they had 2 relay teams compete as well. The girls’ 4×800 relay team placed 14th overall with a season best time of 10:13.00, and the boys’ 4×800 relay team placed 20th with a time of 8:32.47. Daviess County’s Ellie Girten just barely missed out on silverware with a 4th place finish in the high jump, and Connor White placed top 10 in the long jump. 

Individual performances for DCHS included: 

  • Ellie Girten: 4th in high jump (5-0)
  • Connor White: 9th in long jump (20-5.25), 14th in 100m dash (11.17)
  • Lucy Spaw: 11th in 800m run (2:22.00)
  • Kolyn Cruz:15th in discus (130-7)
  • Blakely Greer: 20th in (1600m run)
  • Sally Tidwell: 23rd in 3200m run (12:47.78)
  • Rebekah Moran: 23rd in 100m hurdles (18:38)

OHS

Owensboro had 3 relay teams compete in the State Championship along with multiple individuals. The girls’ 4×200 relay team finished in the top 10 as they placed 10th with a time of 1:48.36. The girls’ 4×100 relay team placed 14th with a season best time of 51.23, and the girls’ 4×400 relay team placed 22nd with a time of 4:23.96. Individual results for OHS included:

  • Lilah Stanley: 19th in 300m hurdles (49.53)
  • Nakiyah Voyles: 20th in high jump (4-8)
  • Ava Fincher: 21st in long jump (14-0.5)
  • Kaden McKnight: 21st in 110m hurdles (16.42)
  • Jakson Lindsey: 23rd in discus (117-2)

OCHS

Owensboro Catholic competed in the Class 1A Championship and placed 24th in the women’s rankings and 40th in the men’s rankings. They had 2 relay teams place in the top 10. On the girl’s side, the 4×800 relay team placed 5th overall with a season best time of 10:20.41 while the 4×400 relay team placed 11th with a season best time of 4:27.83. The boy’s 4×200 relay team placed 6th with a time of 1:32.84, the 4×100 relay team placed 12th with a season best time of 45.39 and the 4×400 relay team placed 20th with a season best time of 3:46.66. 

Scarlett Isenbarger, Mallary Bailey, Ainsley Sutter, Peyton Reid all placed in the top 10 in their respective events. The individual results for OCHS included: 

  • Scarlett Isenbarger: 7th in 800m run (SB 2:29.01)
  • Mallary Bailey: 9th in 100m hurdles (16.76), 24th in 300m hurdles (52.80)
  • Ainsley Sutter: 10th in 3200m run (SB 12:31.47), 12th in 1600m run (SB 5:47.24)
  • Peyton Reid: 10th in 1600m run (5:36.37)
  • Aubrey Ezell: 15th in high jump (SB 4-6)
  • Xavier Maddox: 15th in 400m dash (53.75)
  • Russ Boarman: 17th in 100m dash (11.60), 21st in 200m dash (23.86)
  • Michael Lyon: 19th in shot put (40-10)
  • Ashlie Hayden: 21st in 3200m run (13:48.87)
  • Anna Booker: 23rd in 400m dash (1:05.82)
