
Virgie Mae Grant, 96, of Owensboro, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2024 at Hermitage Care and Rehabilitation. She was born March 15, 1928 in Owensboro, Kentucky to the late James Clarence Davis and Mary Ellen Drace Davis. Virgie retired from General Electric. She was a charter member of Temple Baptist Church, which is now Crosspointe Baptist Church. Virgie was a very charitable person, always supporting the Fraternal Order of Police and the local fire departments.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, David Vanover; brothers, Jimmy (Betty) Davis and William Earl Davis; and a sister, Rosie Allen.
She is survived by her sons, James Clinton Grant (Sheila), Danny Vanover, and Phillip Vanover; daughter, Ellen Maria Jonas Reed; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lois Davis; and a daughter-in-law, Martha Vanover.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, June 3, 2024 at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation is from 3 to 6 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
