
Imon Lee Ballard, 92, of Hartford, Kentucky, went to his heavenly home Tuesday, May 28, 2024, with his family by his side at his residence. He was born on December 6, 1931, in Hartford as one of nine children, to the late Joseph Oscar Ballard and Beulah Casteel Ballard. Imon worked for Glen Wells Rambler and retired from Peabody Coal as a mechanic. He was a member of UMWA Local 8941.
Some may remember Imon for his amazing woodworking ability. He could be found whenever possible, after retirement, in his woodshop handmaking beautiful bowls, jewelry boxes or anything he set his mind to make. He was a former volunteer for the Hartford Fire Department and an honorary Hartford sorehead. Imon was a founding member of Second Baptist Church.
Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Florence Himes Ballard, on September 1, 2023, and all eight siblings.
He is survived by his dedicated son, Mike Ballard; his daughters, Barbara Southard and Trisha Roach; five grandchildren, Dusty Southard, Nathan Ballard, Cammie Johnson, Zac Southard, and Kayla LaMure and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM Sunday, June 2, 2024, at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam with Rev. Roger Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Hartford. Friends may visit with Imon’s family from 10 AM until the time of the service Sunday at the funeral home.
