Track and Field Regionals took place last week with multiple Owensboro athletes being crowned Regional Champions. The Owensboro Catholic Lady Aces had a runner up finish at the Class 1A Region 2 regional competition, and Trinity competed in the competition as well. In the Class 3A Region 1 competition, the Owensboro Lady Red Devils had a bronze finish at 3rd place, and the Apollo Eagles secured the bronze coming in 3rd in the men’s rankings.
Apollo, Daviess County, Owensboro and Owensboro Catholic will all be sending a multitude of athletes to compete at State. Owensboro Catholic will compete in the Class 1A State Championships today, and the Class 3A State Championships will take place on June 1.
AHS
Apollo placed 3rd overall in the men’s rankings with a score of 62, and the women’s team placed 5th overall with a score of 70. Emily Bertke, Noah Gray and Mary Ann Lyons all claimed the title of regional champions. Apollo was also named Regional Champs in the 4x800m relay, and they placed runner up in the boys 4x100m relay, 3rd in the girls 4×100 relay and 4th in the 4x800m relay. Daviess County’s women’s team placed 4th overall with a score of 74, and the men’s team placed 6th overall with a score of 47. Connor White, Lucy Spaw and Ellie Girten all claimed the title of Regional Champions. Daviess County were named regional champs in the girls 4x800m relay, and they placed runner up in the boys 4x800m relay and 4th in the girls 4x400m relay. Owensboro’s women’s team placed 3rd overall with a score of 81, and the men’s team placed 9th overall with a score of 16. Lilah Stanley was named the 3oom hurdles Regional Champion. Owensboro also placed runner up in the girls 4x100m relay, 4x200m relay and girls 4x400m relay (.07 away from breaking school record). They also placed 5th in the boys 4x800m relay. Mallary Bailey and Scarlett Isenbarger were both named Regional Champions. Owensboro Catholic were named regional champs in the girls 4x800m relay, runners up in the girls 4x400m relay and placed 5th in both the girls 4x100m relay and the girls 4x200m relay. They placed runner up in both the boys 4x100m relay and boys 4x400m relay, and they placed 3rd in the 4x200m relay.

THS
Trinity brings their inaugural season to end by having their athletes compete in the Class 1A Region competition. Head coach Christina Hawkins is very proud of the way her athletes took to a new sport and hopes that more will join the team for next year.
“I’m very proud of the way our athletes took to a new sport,” she said. “They worked hard. They studied their events, and they always gave their best effort. We had a few PR’s at regionals and a couple that were close to their PB. I’m looking forward to next season and am hoping a few more will come out.”
