Owensboro Catholic played their regional first round game against Hancock County where they suffered a 5-0 defeat. The Lady Aces went down early on, but Hannah Robbins led the defense in keeping Hancock scoreless across 4 innings. The Lady Aces ended their season as district runners-up and had an overall record of 17-15.

The game started with Hancock taking a 4-run lead in the first inning. A home run by Hancock proved to be a setback for OCHS, but Lady Aces head coach Jeremy Phelps felt the game was on even terms following the first inning.

“We had a rough first inning,” he said. “I thought it was pretty even after that. We fought and battled as a team but couldn’t get key hits when needed.”

Owensboro Catholic’s defense quickly found its footing and they proceeded to lock them down across the next 4 innings. Hannah Robbins recorded 2 strikeouts and allowed 8 hits across 6 innings. Throughout these 4 innings Catholic struggled to find the hits at the plate that would bring them back on the board. However, Hancock scored 1 final run in the sixth before holding OCHS scoreless in the seventh to end the game at 5-0.

With this loss the Lady Aces’ season comes to a close. Phelps said he is proud of how his team faced the adversity that was thrown their way throughout the season. Injuries sidelined some of their payers, but the team adapted and pushed on, he said.

“Our season started out pretty good,” he said. “We faced some adversity with injuries that sidelined our players for the majority of the season, but we learned to adjust and battled. We just didn’t get the outcome we were looking for to end the season.”
