Softball recap (May 11): AHS, DCHS, OHS, THS

Saturday saw the Owensboro schools in lots of action as Apollo, Daviess County and Trinity all played double headers and Owensboro took to the road to take on Butler County. 

AHS

Apollo’s first game saw them take on Marshall County in a 9-4 defeat.

The game started evenly as neither team could take the lead within the first two innings. Marshall opened the scoring with a run in the third inning. Both teams heated up with 2 runs each in the fourth inning to put the score at 3-2. After the fifth inning went scoreless, Marshall had a big 4-run performance in the sixth inning to pull away with the lead. They added another 2 runs to their lead, and Apollo got those 2 runs back in the bottom of the inning. The final score was 9-4. 

On the mound for the E-gals was Mollie Julian who recorded 4 strikeouts and allowed 8 hits across 6 innings, and Hannah Holder who allowed 2 hits across 1 inning. At the plate, Liza Page hit a triple and had 2 RBIs, and Tyler Hall had 2 RBIs and 3 hits. Arianna Ramirez, Mallory Velotta and Abbie Butterworth all scored 1 run.

In their second game Apollo was defeated 8-3 by Graves County. 

After the first inning went scoreless, Graves and Apollo both scored 1 run in the second. Graves took the lead in the third with 1 run, and they added 2 more runs to their tally in the fourth inning. Graves scored 4 more runs in the top of the sixth to put the score at 8-0. AHS scored 2 final runs in the bottom of the inning, but they were shut down in the final inning and were defeated 8-3. 

On the mound for AHS was Ramirez who allowed 6 hits across 4 innings, and Holder who had 1 strikeout and allowed 3 hits across 3 innings. Ramirez and Keelan Wettstain both hit a double and had 1 RBI, and Hannah Snell, Elizabeth Gardner and Holder all scored 1 run each. 

DCHS

The Lady Panthers dominated on the day as they won both games of their double header in blowout fashion. 

They defeated Pleasure Ridge Park 10-0 in 5 innings. On the mound for the Lady Panthers was Kamryn Timmons who racked up 9 strikeouts and didn’t allow any hits across 3 innings, Story Hume had 3 strikeouts and allowed 1 hit across 2 innings. At the plate, Molly Hancock had 2 RBIs and 1 run scored, and Annie Newman hit 2 doubles, had 1 RBI and scored 2 runs. Shelby Bennett and Briley Henry both hit a double, had 1 RBI and scored 1 run. Makayla Rowan and Kylie Clark both had 1 RBI and scored 1 run each. Callie Smith hit a double and had 1 RBI, and Madeline Jarboe had 1 RBI as well. Avery Morris scored 2 runs and Sadie Morris scored 1. 

In the second game DC defeated Holy Cross 16-1 in 3 innings. On the mound was Sophia Cain who recorded 3 strikeouts and allowed 4 hits across 3 innings. Newman had a big game as she hit 2 home runs, a double, had 4 RBIs, 3 hits and scored 3 runs. Sadie Morris also hit a home run as well as 4 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Avery Morris and Bennett both had 1 RBI and scored 2 runs each. Brylyn Boswell, Hancock and Timmons all had 1 RBI and 1 run scored. Smith hit a double and had 1 RBI, and Kendall Murphy had 1 RBI as well. Rowan, Henry and Hancock each scored 1 run as well.

OHS 12, Butler Co. 3

Owensboro traveled to Butler County where they secured a big 12-3 win. 

Both teams got on the scoreboard early as Butler led 2-1. The Lady Red Devils scored 4 in the next inning to take the lead, and Butler got 1 back in the bottom of the inning. OHS extended their lead with 2 runs in the third and 1 run in the fourth to put the score at 8-3. After a scoreless fifth, Owensboro scored 1 run in the sixth before putting the nail in the coffin with 3 runs in the seventh. 

On the mound for the Lady Red Devils was Alyssa Rhineburger who pitched for 7 innings and allowed 9 hits. At the plate, Ashleigh Howard hit a home run, had 3 RBIs and scored 1 run. Hessi Johnson hit a double, had 4 RBIs and scored 1 run. Sophie Moorman had 2 RBIs with 2 scored runs, and Ellington Embry had 1 RBI as well. Hayley Sikes scored 3 runs, Emmi Connor and Reese Boswell both scored 2 runs and Addison Hill scored 1 run. 

THS

Trinity traveled to LaRue County to compete in the Abe Lincoln Classic. 

They were defeated in their first game 8-3 by Atherton. They fell behind early as Atherton scored 6 runs in the first inning. Atherton scored another in the second before the third and fourth innings went scoreless. Atherton added another run to their lead in the fifth before THS got on the board with 3 runs. It wasn’t enough however, as Atherton took the win 8-3.

On the mound for the Lady Raiders was Sophie Hatfield who recorded 6 strikeouts and allowed 9 hits across 5 innings. At the plate, Madison McDaniel had 2 RBIs and Ella Morris had 1. Emma Whitehouse and Kylie Hatfield both scored 1 run each as well. 

In their second game they were defeated 6-4 by North Hardin. North Hardin took an early lead with 1 run in the opening inning. After the second and third innings went scoreless, the Lady Raiders found their rhythm and scored 4 runs in the top of the fourth. North Hardin would score 3 runs in the bottom of the inning, and they closed out the game with 2 final runs in the fifth. 

On the mound was Morris who racked up 7 strikeouts and allowed 2 hits across 4.1 innings, and Hatfield who had 1 strikeout in 0.2 innings. At the plate, Georgia Howard led with a home run, a double, an RBI and a scored run. Hatfield hit a home run as well and had 1 RBI along with 1 run scored. Sarah Payne had 1 RBI, and runs were scored by Carmelia Brown and Kirsten Mills.
