Baseball recap (May 11): AHS, DCHS, OHS, OCHS

Lots of action on the diamonds yesterday as Apollo and Owensboro both played double headers while Daviess County and Owensboro both took on Pleasure Ridge Park. 

AHS

Apollo had a big 11-0 win over Christian County for their first game. 

The first inning saw Apollo take an early lead with 1 run. The Eagles jumped out further ahead in the second inning with a 5-run performance. After a scoreless third, AHS scored another 5 runs in the fourth inning to close out the game early at 11-0. 

On the mound was Noah Cook who recorded 5 strikeouts and allowed just 1 hit across 5 innings. Ty Lillpop led at the plate with 2 doubles, 4 RBIs, 3 hits and 1 run scored. Easton Blandford hit a double, had 3 RBIs and scored 2 runs, and Grayson Smith had 3 RBIs while scoring 1 run. Garrett Lanham had an RBI, had 3 hits and scored 1 run. Sam Holder, Will Strode and Brock Burger all scored 2 runs.

For their second game, Apollo had an intense game against Lyon County where they narrowly lost 10-9. 

Both teams got moving early on as Apollo scored 2 runs and Lyon scored 3. The second inning went scoreless, but Lyon scored 2 runs in the third to take the score to 5-2. The Eagles fought their way back with 5 runs in the fifth to take the lead at 7-5. However, the lead was short lived as Lyon scored 3 runs in the next inning. An intense finale saw AHS score 2 runs to take the lead at 9-8, but Lyon scored 2 runs in the bottom of the inning to steal the win at 10-9. 

On the mound was Carter Kimmel who recorded 3 strikeouts and allowed 5 hits across 4 innings, and Ross Milburn recorded 2 strikeouts and allowed 6 hits across 2.1 innings. At the plate Gunnar Hendricks had 2 RBIs, and Milburn hit a double, had an RBI and scored 1 run. Smith and Holder both had 1 RBI and scored 2 runs each. Strode had an RBI and scored 1 run, and Lillpop had 1 RBI. Lanham scored 1 run as well. 

Pleasure Ridge Park 9, DCHS 2

Daviess County suffered a 9-2 defeat against Pleasure Ridge Park. 

The game started off evenly as both teams went scoreless in the first two innings. PRP then jumped ahead with 5 runs in the third inning. They scored another run before Daviess County got on the board with 1 run in the top of the fifth. PRP extended their lead with 3 runs in the bottom inning, however. DC scored 1 more run in the sixth, but they were shut down in the seventh and PRP took the win 9-2. 

On the mound for the Panthers was Brodie Tucker who had 1 strikeout across 3 innings, Carter Nichols who had 1 strikeout across 1 inning and Brett Poole who had 1 strikeout across 2 innings. At the plate, Gavin Howard had an RBI and scored 1 run, Brody Brubaker scored 1 run as well.

OHS 

Owensboro hosted a double header against Marshall County at home, and the Red Devils won both games 10-0 and 6-3. 

On the mound for OHS the first game was Cayden Ray who recorded 3 strikeouts and didn’t allow any hits across 3 innings, and Will Hume allowed 2 hits across 2 innings. At the plate, Ray had 2 RBIs and scored 1 run, and Blake Kimbrell had 2 RBIs as well. Evan Hampton hit a triple, had 3 hits and scored 3 runs, Lake Wilson had 1 RBI with 1 run scored and Ty Ashley and Brady Benjamin both had 1 RBI. Will Hume scored 2 runs and Trevor DeLacey and Will RIckard both scored 1. 

In the second game, Hume pitched for 4 innings and recorded 2 strikeouts while allowing 5 hits, Rickard pitched for 2 innings and recorded 2 strikeouts while allowing 3 hits, and Kaleb Ashley allowed 1 hit in 1 inning. At the plate, Hampton continued to perform as he had 3 RBIs, and Kimbrell had 1 RBI as well. Benjamin and DeLacey both had 1 RBI with 1 run scored, and Ray and Rickard both scored 1 run each. 

Pleasure Ridge Park 7, OCHS 6

Owensboro Catholic were taken down by Pleasure Ridge Park as well after a close 7-6 defeat. 

OC struck first with 1 run in the opening inning. PRP took the lead in the second with 2 runs, but the Aces came up with a 4-run performance in the third inning to take the score to 5-2. PRP got 2 runs back across the next two innings, and they tied the game up in the seventh with 1 run to send the game into extra innings. The eighth inning saw both teams score 1 run to put the score at 6-6, but PRP would take the win after scoring 1 run and then shutting down OCHS. The final score was 7-6. 

On the mound for the Aces was Lane Hundley who had 2 strikeouts and allowed 2 hits across 2 innings, Luke Quinn who allowed 3 hits across 3 innings and Jaxson White who had 2 strikeouts and allowed 5 hits across 4 innings. At the plate, Brady Atwell hit a home run, a double, had 1 RBI and scored 1 run. Deuce Sims had 1 RBI and scored 1 run, and Mason Moser and White both had 1 RBI. Eli Bair hit a double and scored 1 run, and Barrett Evans, Parker Heistand and Houston Flynn all scored 1 run.
