When country music star Chris Janson takes the stage Saturday night during BBQ & Barrels, he’ll be ready to spread some good vibes and bring his trademark, high-energy show to the main stage on the Owensboro Convention Center lawn.

The man who Rolling Stone calls “a live legacy in the making” has been frequenting the nation’s largest festivals and tours, but still says he’s looking forward to this free, outdoor performance in Owensboro.

“Every crowd is a crowd I’m grateful to play for,” Janson told Owensboro Times. “[But] there is something extra special about connecting with real-deal middle America. I love it, and I’m looking forward to it.”

Fans can expect to hear Janson’s No. 1 feel-good hits “Fix A Drink” and “Good Vibes,” along with the four-time platinum “Buy Me A Boat,” as well as the more thoughtful themes of the songs “Done,” “Things You Can’t Live Without,” and the CMA Song of the Year nominee and ACM Video of the Year “Drunk Girl.”

Attendees may even hear his latest single, “Whatcha See is Whatcha Get.” But beyond that, you never know what you might hear at a Janson show.

The 2018 inductee of the Grand Ole Opry and multi-Platinum songwriter and artist has become part of country music’s new breed, known for keeping things fun and staying in touch with the lighter side of life. Personally, Janson is an avid outdoorsman who has partnered with Bass Pro Shops, Cabela’s, and other outdoor brands.

Janson spoke with Owensboro Times about his upcoming headlining performance at BBQ & Barrels and life as a touring husband and father.

OT – When I found out I was doing this interview, your song “Good Vibes” was rolling around in my head for days. Which of your songs still gets stuck in your head?

CJ – Thank you! I would have to say “Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get.”

OT – You’ve written several cuts for other artists and obviously written and recorded multiple hits as a solo artist. When it comes to your live shows like we’re about to see, is it a different feeling for you to play songs like “Truck Yeah” (recorded by Tim McGraw) or “I Love This Life” (recorded by LoCash)?

CJ – Great question. They’re all unique in their own right, and I like to play them all. There is something very honorable about someone who’s a star singing my songs. It’s very humbling. I’m a major believer in just playing hits … and that’s what you’ll get with my concert. Hit songs are a blessing, and I’m proud to have many and proud to have people sing along.

OT – You talk openly about raising your two younger kids and enjoying your two older “bonus” kids with your wife, Kelly. How have you managed being a good dad and husband with your busy career and traveling schedule? Does playing this close to Nashville make it easier?

CJ – We’ll take a show close to home any day of the week. Yes, it’s easier! I keep my faith and family on the forefront of my everyday life, no matter what. When you have your priorities in line, the rest falls into place. My wife and kids are the most important thing in my life, hands down. No question.

OT – For fans who came to see you the last time you were here in 2019, what can we expect new or different at your show Saturday?

CJ – A lot more hit songs, and a whole lot more fun! Get ready! Just bring your good vibes and a smile and it’s going to be great!

Other artists appearing at BBQ & Barrels include Fan Halen with August Christopher, and Hannah Ellis, who is opening for Janson.
