Shirley Hines, 89, of Owensboro passed away Thursday, May 2, 2024. She was born in Daviess County on January 15, 1935, to the late Howard and Marzella “Jack” Krahwinkel. Shirley attended Christ Community Church and was a long-time member of Karns Grove Baptist Church. She retired from Philpot Elementary School and then enjoyed volunteering at the Owensboro Christian Church Common Good Community Store. Shirley also enjoyed her card and bunco groups and spending time with her beloved dog, Zoey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William “Sonny” Hines and her siblings, Billy Joe Krahwinkel, Howard Krahwinkel, and Betty Krahwinkel Paris.
Survivors include her two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Larry Catron and Sheri and Scott Plain; sisters-in-law, Josephine Hines and Cevilla Krahwinkel; and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the wonderful employees of Wellington Parc, Cedarhurst Memory Care, and the Owensboro Health Emergency Room and Third Floor medical teams.
A celebration of life service is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Monday, May 6, 2024, at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation is from noon until 2 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
