Navy veteran Dan Vincent joined the military on his 17th birthday and entered the electrical trade during his time in the reserves. That led the Owensboro native to form Vincent Electric in July 2003.
Vincent spent 2 years on active duty and 6 in the reserves before entering an apprenticeship program and beginning to work under other contractors. He did that for a decade before venturing out on his own.
“When I started the business, it was just me searching for a better way to care for my family,” Vincent said. “Being in business seemed to be a better route than working for other people, and without a shadow of a doubt, I can say God has blessed us.”
He said he didn’t consider himself someone with natural talent; rather, he steadfastly relied on the values of hard work and honesty to build his business.
“I always felt like God had his hands upon us, and through that, we’ve developed several good long-term customer relationships,” he said. “We have customers who have been with us since we started.”
Over the last 20-plus years, Vincent said the electrical landscape has become more competitive, and price often drives decisions. While he always prioritizes affordability, he said quality and efficient work remain the cornerstone of his efforts.
“There is always someone that can offer lower prices, and that is what several purchasing agents are looking for: somebody cheaper,” he said. “We’ve been blessed to have several long-term customers, and when they need something electrical, they’re calling, and that has been an enormous blessing.”
When he first opened the business, he had no other employees. He addd the first one a couple of years later, and he has remained with Vincent for more than 20 years. Vincent Electric now boasts nine employees, each with their own skillset.
The company offers residential, commercial, and industrial electrical services. Vincent allows his work to speak for itself, relying solely on word-of-mouth to generate new business.
“I’ve never been big on a website or social media,” he said. “We have an ad in the phone book, but other than that, it’s been word-of-mouth and building relationships with people daily.”
