Apollo was victorious over Owensboro in a close district game. Meanwhile, Owensboro Catholic secured a win on home turf while Daviess County and Trinity weren’t as successful at home.
AHS 3, OHS 1
Apollo made a big push late in the game to take the 3-1 win over Owensboro. After this game both the Eagles and the Red Devils sit 1-1 in district play.
The Red Devils took the lead in the first inning with 1 run. Pitching was the name of the game for the next 5 innings as both teams held one another scoreless. Carter Kimmel was on the mound for the Eagles where he recorded 4 strikeouts and 18 total outs while only allowing 3 hits throughout 6 innings. Will Hume pitched 3.2 innings for OHS and recorded 2 strikeouts while allowing only 2 hits. AHS took the game in the sixth when they scored 3 runs in the bottom of the inning. OHS was held scoreless in the seventh to make the final score 3-1.
Ryleigh Logan pitched the final inning for AHS and had 2 strikeouts. Logan also scored 1 run for AHS. Michael Chaney hit a double and had an RBI, and Ty Lillpop hit a double and scored 1 run as well. Ross Milburn and Grayson Smith both had 1 RBI.
Will Rickard took over on the mound for the Red Devils and had 1 strikeout across 2.1 innings. Evan Hampton had 1 hit and scored Owensboro’s lone run while Cayden Ray had 2 hits at the plate.
Muhlenberg Co. 5, DCHS 0
Daviess County hosted Muhlenberg County at home where they were defeated 5-0.
The game started off evenly as both teams went scoreless in the first two innings. Muhlenberg scored their first run in the third inning to take the lead. The Panthers fought to bring the score back, but they were held at bay while Muhlenberg extended their lead in the fifth inning with another run. Muhlenberg scored 3 final runs in the seventh inning to close out the score at 5-0.
On the mound for the Panthers was Logan Mewes who recorded 8 strikeouts across 6.1 innings. DC only had 3 hits at the plate coming from Mewes, Brody Brubaker and Noah Ranburger.
OCHS 2, Henderson Co. 0
Owensboro Catholic shut down Henderson County to secure a 2-0 win at home.
Catholic started strong with a run in the first inning to take an early lead. They extended that lead in the second with another run. Although they struggled to add more runs to their tally, the Aces locked in on defense to hold Henderson scoreless for the rest of the game.
Lane Hundley was on the mound for OCHS where he recorded 6 strikeouts across 6 innings. Barrett Evans pitched the final inning for Catholic. At the plate, Brady Atwell hit a home run for his RBI and 1 scored run. The other run was scored by Ben Hyland, and Houston Flynn had an RBI as well.
Grayson Co. 11, Trinity 1
Trinity hosted Grayson County at home where they suffered a tough 11-1 defeat.
The Raiders fell behind early as Grayson scored 7 runs in the first inning for a big lead early on. THS tightened up on defense and they held Grayson scoreless for the next four innings. They struggled to score during that time, but they finally broke through in the sixth inning with 1 run. It was too late however, as Grayson scored 4 in the top of the sixth to close out the game at 11-1.
Hayden Aull was on the mound for the Raiders where he recorded 4 strikeouts across 5.1 innings. Brady McBrayer had the RBI on Grant Howard’s scored run.
