
BEAVER DAM-Betty Jane (Straub) Sumner, 88, of Beaver Dam, KY formerly of Chandler, IN passed away Thursday, April 15, 2024 at her home under Hospice Care.
She was born at home on September 16, 1935 in St Wendell, Indiana to the late Edward Straub and Margaret (Straub) Bell. Betty was a gifted seamstress and cook. She retired from the Warrick County School Corporation and worked many years for Kuester’s Hardware. She was a Girl Scout leader and an avid yard saler.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by an infant daughter Debra Ann, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harold and Louise Sumner of Elberfeld, Indiana.
She leaves behind to cherish all that she was; her husband of 67 years Jerry W. Sumner, her daughters Becky (David) Funk, of Hartford, KY and Jean Wright (Randall West) of Mt. Juliet, TN; grandchildren; Amy (Brandon) Reed, Cody (Miranda) Funk, Lea (Eric) Brown, Sara (Ben) Thompson; great-grandchildren, Savannah Buckner, Alexis Buckner, Holly Funk, Brooklyn Reed, Reisz Thompson, Jerry Brown, Henry Brown and Baby Thompson. Two brothers, Harold Straub and Larry Straub of St Wendell, and sister-in-law Connie Ruston of Elberfeld, IN; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be from 10am to 12 noon on April 18, 2024 at Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Beaver Dam, KY. Funeral service will be 12 noon at the funeral home with Sister Mary James officiating. Graveside services will be at 2PM at Maple Grove Cemetery in Boonville, IN.
Betty’s family would like to thank her present caregivers; Glenda, Tammy, Annie, Briley, Brandy and Sherry for their care, love and support. The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to St Jude.
