Durward James “D.J.” Clark, 100, of Owensboro passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, April 14, 2024. He was born November 7, 1923, in Daviess County, Kentucky to the late Durward John Clark and Helen Head Clark. D.J. was a World War II Veteran serving in the U.S. Navy and stationed on the U.S.S. Levy as a Radioman. D.J. was also a retired accountant.
D.J. was an active member of the T.P.A. Post G organization for many years. He enjoyed researching the genealogy of both the Clark and Hayden families. D.J. was a member of St. Vincent De Paul, the American Legion, and the Knights of Columbus. He also enjoyed reading and working.
Along with his parents, D.J. was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Margaret “Jean” Hayden Clark; granddaughter, Laurie Clark Williams; and siblings, Jerry Clark, William T. Clark, Dennis Clark, Leon Clark, Elizabeth Mattingly, and Mary Joan Clark.
D.J. is survived by his children, Linda (Bert) Wells, David (Margaret) Clark, Gary Clark, and Deborah (Rick) Hudgins; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and sisters Anna Lou (Vic) Bergevin and Nancy (George) Walz.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made to Hospice of Western Kentucky, 3914 Wathen’s Crossing, Owensboro, KY 42301, or Catholic Masses.
The family is very grateful to D.J.’s caregiver, Ms. Freda Boone of Lewisport, KY.
The funeral Mass will be at noon on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at St. Stephen Cathedral. Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory with prayers being said at 6:00 pm. Visitation again on Wednesday at the church from 11:00 am until the time of service.
