Update: 1:28 p.m. – Daviess County Sheriff Brad Youngman confirmed the gun used in the incident was stolen from a west Daviess County vehicle in July 2023.
Youngman said several vehicles had possessions stolen from them on the night in question, including firearms.
“The number one way people get stolen firearms is stealing from unlocked cars, so we encourage everyone to have their possessions in a locked vehicle or elsewhere,” Youngman said.

Update 9:20 a.m. – Samuel Lee Hamilton, 19, of Owensboro, is facing three charges including murder after a male victim died following a shooting Tuesday night, according to the Owensboro Police Department.
According to OPD, at 9:12 p.m. on Tuesday officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of East 20th Street, where a male victim had suffered a gunshot wound. AMR and Owensboro Fire Department administered aid after they arrived on the scene.
The victim was transported to the Owensboro Health Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to OPD.
OPD Criminal Investigations continued investigating the area, interviewing multiple witnesses, and processing evidence that led to Hamilton as the suspect. Detectives on the scene were able to locate the firearm and determined it had been stolen in 2023.
Hamilton is now lodged in Daviess County Detention Center on the following charges:
- Murder
- Tampering with Physical Evidence
- Receiving Stolen Property (Firearm)
Original Story: The Owensboro Police Department is on scene at East 20th Street following a shooting Tuesday night, officials have confirmed.
