Baseball recap (April 2): AHS, OHS, OCHS

Apollo and Owensboro Catholic both picked up wins as they continued play in the Panama City Beach Bash while Owensboro took on Hollins (St. Petersburg), FL. Owensboro played in a close game against Hollins that saw OHS barely fall short 7-6. Individual stats for OHS are currently unavailable. 

AHS

Apollo played two games that saw them walk out with a win and a loss. 

Apollo defeated Frederick Douglass in a comfortable 6-0 win. The first innings of the game had both teams hold one another scoreless until Apollo had a big 4-run performance in the fourth inning. Now with a comfortable cushion, Apollo began to slowly build their lead with 2 runs in the next two innings while holding Frederick Douglass scoreless. They closed out the win at 6-0.

Carter Kimmel had a big game on the mound as he recorded 11 strikeouts while only allowing 1 hit and 1 total base across 7 innings. At the plate, Sam Holder hit a triple during the game along with an RBI and a scored run. Will Strode hit a double, had 3 hits, an RBI and 1 scored run. Grayson Smith had 2 RBIs during the game as well.

In their second game Apollo was defeated 7-3 by Florida school Arnold (Panama City Beach). 

The first two innings saw both teams fail to get a clear advantage over the other. The third inning changed that when Arnold scored 3 runs to take the lead. Apollo would cut into the lead in the top of the fourth with 2 runs, but Arnold got a run back in the bottom of the inning. Apollo tried to close the gap with another run in the fifth, but Arnold would score 1 run in the bottom of the fifth and in the sixth inning while holding AHS scoreless for the remainder of the game. The final score 7-3. 

On the mound, Strode and Garrett Lanham combined for 6 strikeouts. At the plate, Eastin Blandford had an RBI, 2 hits and 1 run scored. Ryleigh Logan had an RBI, and Holder scored 1 run as well. 

OCHS 11, Archbishop  McNicholas (Cincinnati), OH 1

Owensboro Catholic had an 11-1 blowout victory against Archbishop McNicholas in their second game of the Panama City Beach Bash. 

Archbishop got their offense moving with 1 run in the top of the first inning, but Owensboro Catholic built up momentum fast with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning. After the second inning went scoreless, OCHS extended their lead with another run in the third. The Aces ran away with the lead in the fourth inning after scoring 5 runs to take the lead to 9-1. They closed out the win with 2 more runs to make the final score 11-1. 

Brady Atwell had a big game at the plate as he hit a triple, had 3 RBIs, had 3 hits and scored 3 runs. Houston Flynn and Jaxson White both had 1 RBI with 2 runs scored. Christopher Burns had 2 RBIs, and Deuce Sims and Barrett Evans both had 1 RBI. Parker Heistand hit a double and scored 2 runs, and Eli Blair had an RBI with a run scored as well. On the mound was Luke Quinn with 4 strikeouts across 5 innings.
