Softball recap (March 14): AHS, OCHS

Apollo started their season off with a bang as they had a blowout win over Butler County, and Owensboro Catholic had a tough loss at home against South Warren. 

AHS 11, Butler Co. 0

Apollo had an 11-0 blowout win on the road against Butler County. 

The game was evenly matched up until Apollo scored 6 runs in the fifth inning to take a big lead. They put the game away in the sixth inning with 5 runs and a seventh inning wasn’t played. The team scored 11 runs off of 12 hits, and Abie Butterworth and Macy Calhoun both had 3 RBIs. Calhoun hit 2 doubles during the game as well. Mallory Velotta had 3 hits while Butterworth, Calhoun and Taylor Clark all had 2. 

On the mound, Mollie Julian had 3 strikeouts and allowed 4 hits.

South Warren 8, OCHS 3

Owensboro Catholic suffered a 8-3 loss at home against South Warren. 

Much of the game saw both teams hold each other at a stalemate until late in the game. South Warren had lots of success at the plate in the fifth scoring 7 runs. After South Warren scored one more run in the sixth, Owensboro Catholic got on the scoreboard with 3 runs in the last inning. 

Tyranda Stuart, Gracie Dukate and Maren Riney all had an RBI, and Dukate and Hannah Tignor both hit a double during the game. Runs were scored by Tignor, Dukate and Stuart. On the mound was Hannah Robbins who had 2 strikeouts.
