Betty Lee Lambert-Hayes, 82, passed away suddenly on March 11, 2024 after a long fought battle with cancer. She was born in Hancock County in 1942 to the late Eva-Lee and Dawson Lambert.
Betty grew up on a farm in Gatewood with her parents and two brothers. It was there she learned the value of family, hard work, and developed her love of gardening. She graduated from Daviess County High School, attended college, and began a career in manufacturing in northern Indiana. After becoming a mother of two, she returned to Gatewood and began working at Swedish Match and ended her career by retiring from Commonwealth Aluminum. Betty was a devoted daughter, mother, sister, and Ma’maw. She tended to her mother and father until their passing. She enjoyed traveling and sightseeing along the back country roads with her children and grandchildren. Her main hobby was tending to her elaborate flower garden. It was there she would nurture each plant, watch the hummingbirds, and listen to the melodies of many other birds as they begged for a piece of cheese.
She was survived by her brothers Glenn (Kaye) and Jurleow (Marlene) Lambert. Children Anita and Rick (Michele) Boyles. Grandchildren April Nichole Flake, Daniel Eversole, Zachary (Kasey) Eversole, Dakota Browning, Dalton (Kiersten) Moore, and Max and Jack Boyles. Great grand children Brennan Flake, Elijah, Ian, Oliver, Able, Romie Avalee Eversole, Ayden Browning, Maylynn, and Joslynn Moore. Great-great grandchildren Atticus and Ezra Flake.
Private graveside services will be held on Monday, March 18, 2024. Visitation will be held at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Lewisport Chapel on Sunday, March 17, 2024 from 2 pm until 4 pm.
