The Owensboro Museum of Science and History is hosting a pair of programs this weekend. One is designed to show attendees that geology rocks, providing education on rocks, minerals, and fossils. The other will offer storytelling and an interactive experience about solar eclipses.
The programs are part of the Museum’s “Spring into Science” initiative.
The geology program will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and again from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Geologist Cran Combs will be at his lab station in the OMSH Mammoth Lobby. Guests will learn how to identify minerals, discover different types of rocks, and more through the activities and handouts.
Guests are encouraged to bring their rocks, minerals, and fossils to the session. They’ll also go home with a specimen or two.
At 2 p.m. on Sunday, the museum will welcome regional storyteller Susan Fowler to present the story of a solar eclipse. The presentation will be aimed at elementary-aged children and hosted in the First People of Yellow Banks exhibit.
“Stories of the Total Eclipse of the Sun will come to life through creative drama, music, movement, simple props, and smiles,” a release from the museum said.
All activities are included with museum admission of $5 per person. Children 2 and under, as well as museum members, are admitted free.
