Edgar “Eddie” D. Wright Jr., 73, of Owensboro passed away Friday, February 16, 2024, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. The Daviess County native was born June 25, 1950, to the late Edgar D. Wright Sr. and Francis Payne Wright. Eddie graduated from Owensboro Catholic High School, class of 1968 and served in the Kentucky National Guard. Eddie was a Kentucky Colonel, President of the F.O.E (4168), and a longtime board member of the International Bar-B-Que Festival. For those who grew up in Owensboro, he will be remembered as the owner of the Eastway Café and the E.W. Backroom on highway 60 East. Eddie was an avid golfer, and a fan of UK basketball and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a member of the Crooked Creek Cooking Team at the Bar-B-Que festival.

In addition to his parents, Eddie also was preceded in death by his infant sister, Pamela Gail Wright and mother-in-law, Lena Mondak.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of over 40 years, Michele; daughter, Gabriele Wright (David Burk) both of Owensboro; sons, Eddie Jones (Angie Nielson) of Nashville, and Evan Wright of Brooklyn, NY; three grandchildren, Catherine Waltermeyer (Matt), Joseph Cameron Jones (Ashleigh), and Caitlin Vitolo (Kaynin); four great grandchildren, Matthew, Lily, Asher, and Carter; brother, Keith Wright (Holly); two sisters, Charlotte Moore (Larry) and Susie Harris (Rich); father-in-law, Joseph Mondak; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral Mass for Eddie Wright will be 11:00 am Thursday at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3:00 until 7:00 pm with prayers at 6:00 pm and Thursday from 9:00 until 10:30 am at the Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery.
