Owensboro Catholic’s own Brady Prusz is set to continue his baseball career into college after he signed to play for Oakland City University. Prusz signed to become a Mighty Oak on Feb. 13 at Owensboro Catholic High School.

Prusz plans to use this opportunity as a collegiate athlete to help improve both himself and Oakland City.

“It feels rewarding and it’s a great opportunity,” he said. “I worked hard for this spot and I plan to advance our team to the best of my ability.”

Prusz has yet to play his senior season for the Aces, but he is eager to begin as he had to sit out last year due to rules regarding his transfer from Daviess County. To make up for his lack of playing time and stats, Prusz began attending showcases at various colleges to show coaches what he can do in person. Multiple schools showed interest in Prusz, but  an Oakland City coach took a particular interest in Prusz’s progression.

“Because I had to sit out last season because of the transfer rules, we focused on local showcases at the different colleges to get in front of the coaches,” he said. “Four colleges showed interest and offered scholarships, but Coach Lasher at Oakland City University had seen me at 3 showcases and told me he liked how much I improved on the mound over the past year.”

Prusz visited the college and decided Oakland City was where he could succeed.

“Oakland city felt like the right fit,” he said. “Coach Lasher did a great job at getting my attention during the recruiting process. I enjoyed the environment and I can see myself succeeding there.”

Prusz said he will be studying business while in school to hopefully follow in the footsteps of his dad in pharmaceutical sales. Oakland City lies across the border in Indiana, but the distance is of no concern to Prusz as he said he is excited to be independent and get the full college experience.

With his college days still a ways away, Prusz reflected on how he will miss his teammates and the community here in Owensboro.

“I will miss the community and the team,” he said. “I have grown close with these guys and playing alongside them is a reward.”
