Girls’ Basketball recap (Feb. 15): AHS, DCHS, OHS

With the regular season steadily marching toward its conclusion, Daviess County and Owensboro both secured wins to help set them up in the postseason. Apollo took another hit as they were defeated by Edmonson County. 

Edmonson Co. 49, AHS 35

Apollo took to the road to face off against Edmonson County where they were defeated 49-35. 

Apollo struggled to get past Edmonson’s defense early on as they were outscored 16-2 in the first quarter. The E-gals got their offense moving in the  second quarter as Liz Gardner’s 8 points helped AHS to 10 in the quarter. Edmonson led 28-12 at halftime. Apollo outscored Edmonson 10-8 in the third quarter. Both teams kept the scoring close in the final quarter at 13-13. Edmonson took the win at 49-35. 

Leading the E-gals in scoring was Gardner along with Jennifer Lee with 10 points each. Both had high FT% as Gardner shot 4 of 6 from the free throw line and Lee shot 6 of 9.

DCHS 59, Greenwood 39

Kennedy Lane had a 27-point performance to lead Daviess County to a 59-39 win over Greenwood. 

The Lady Panthers started out strong as Kennedy Lane’s 9 points in the first quarter helped DC to a 14-2 lead. Greenwood fought back in the second quarter and outscored DCHS 22-13, but the Lady Panthers still held a 27-24 lead at halftime. Daviess County extended their lead in the third quarter by outscoring Greenwood 19-10. They closed out the game at 59-39. 

Lane’s 27 points led the Lady Panthers in scoring, and she had 3 threes and shot 8 of 9 from the free throw line as well. Lily Hoagland followed behind with 15 points, one three and she shot 4 of 4 from the line.

OHS 57, South Warren 37

In their second to last game of the regular season, Owensboro beat South Warren at home 57-37. 

Both teams started off evenly as the first quarter ended 13-13. The OHS defense held South Warren to just 4 points in the second quarter while they scored 11 to have a 24-17 lead at halftime. The Lady Red Devils made 3 threes as part of their 20 points in the third quarter to help outscore South Warren 20-13. They held South Warren to 7 points in the final quarter to close out the game 57-37. 

Leading the Lady Red Devils in scoring was Heleina John with 14 points. Shalyn Sprinkles followed behind with 2 threes as part of her 10 points.
