Apollo and Trinity went head-to-head in a game that saw the Eagles come out on top. Meanwhile, Owensboro and Owensboro Catholic both played against Evansville schools as well.
AHS 67, THS 47
Apollo took down Trinity 67-47 at home.
Apollo got ahead early as they made 4 threes and 18 points to lead 18-10 going into the second. Trinity’s defense was more successful in slowing down AHS in the second quarter as THS were outscored 12-10. The Eagles led at halftime 30-20. Trinity were determined to take the lead in the third quarter as Connor Hatfield’s 10 points helped the Raiders outscore Apollo 18-14, but Apollo still led 44-38. The Eagles put the nail in the coffin in the fourth quarter as they held Trinity to 7 points while they scored 23. AHS closed out the game at 67-47.
Evansville Harrison, IN 84, OHS 47
Owensboro traveled to Evansville, IN where they suffered a tough 84-47 loss to Evansville Harrison.
The Red Devils fell behind early on as Harrison gained a 25-10 lead by the end of the first quarter. Owensboro kept it close in the second quarter as Harrison outscored them 17-14 to lead at halftime at 42-24. OHS struggled to contain Harrison in the third quarter as they were outscored 25-13. Harrison closed out the game at 84-47.
Leading the Red Devils in scoring was Michael Acton with 14 points. Keaton Hughes followed close behind with 13 points.
Evansville Memorial, IN 63, OCHS 61
Luke Bieckman scored an impressive 31 points in Owensboro Catholic’s narrow 63-61 loss against Evansville Memorial.
Both teams started off strong, but Beickman’s 9 points helped OCHS lead 21-15 at the end of the first quarter. Memorial held Catholic to just 8 points while they took the lead at halftime at 32-29. The third quarter had both teams neck and neck as Memorial barely outscored OCHS 12-11. A scoring battle in the final quarter saw Bieckman score another 12 points in the fourth to help the Aces outscore Memorial 21-19, but it was barely short of taking the lead and Memorial took the win at 63-61.
Beickman’s 31 points, 4 threes and 5 of 6 shooting from the free throw line led the Aces in scoring. Waryn Ebelhar followed behind with 13 points on the night.
