All of the Owensboro schools saw action yesterday, but only Apollo and Owensboro Catholic were victorious against their regional opponents as Daviess County, Owensboro and Trinity all suffered defeats.
AHS 39, Hancock Co. 37
Apollo etched out a narrow 39-37 win on the road against Hancock County. Kobe Kelly led the Eagles in scoring with 2 threes and 12 points. Eli Williams followed behind with 10 points on the night. Luke Jarboe and Tate Powers both made a three pointer to go with their 8 and 7 points respectively.
Greenwood 69, DCHS 64
Daviess County received a rare loss after they just barely fell short in their 69-64 defeat against Greenwood.
DCHS trailed slightly at the end of the first quarter at 13-10. They scored another 10 points in the second quarter, but Greenwood extended their lead with 14 points to go into halftime 27-20. Both teams came out aggressive in the third quarter as Greenwood outscored DC 23-20. DC launched a final offensive to take the lead late in their game by outscoring Greenwood 24-19, but there wasn’t enough time on the clock and Greenwood took the win 69-64.
Jonathan Moss led the Panthers with 2 threes, 21 points and 100% FT% shooting 5 of 5. Gage Phelps followed behind with 2 threes, 17 points, and a high FT% shooting 5 of 6. Aydan Ayer scored 13 points, and Jaxon Brown scored 11 points on the night as well.
Bowling Green 73, OHS 59
Owensboro suffered a 73-59 loss against a tough Bowling Green team.
Owensboro started off on the backfoot as Bowling gained a 21-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. OHS was able to hold back Bowling Green in the second quarter as both teams scored 12 points. The halftime score was 33-22 with Bowling green leading. The Red Devils went into the third quarter determined to cut the gap as Dayshaun Sanders’ 10 points helped OHS to 25 in the quarter. However, Bowling Green wasn’t far behind as they scored 24. Owensboro couldn’t cut into the lead in the fourth and they lost 73-59.
Will Hume led the Red Devils in scoring with 3 threes and 19 points. Sanders followed behind with 12 points, and Keaton Hughes scored 9 on the night as well.
OCHS 65, Muhlenberg Co. 63
Owensboro Catholic won their regional game against Muhlenberg 65-63 in a game that had to be settled in overtime.
Catholic gained an early 17-14 lead at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter saw both teams struggle to get past the other’s defense as OCHS outscored Muhlenberg 11-8 to lead 28-22. Muhlenberg cut into Catholic’s lead in the third quarter by outscoring them 16-13. Muhlenberg scored 15 to the Aces 12 in the final quarter to send it into overtime. Luke Beickman’s 9 points in overtime helped Owensboro Catholic get the 65-63 win.
Beickman shot 8 of 10 on free throws as part of his impressive 26 points to lead the Aces. Tutt Carrico had the net highest points with 13 on the night.
Ohio Co. 73, THS 30
Trinity suffered a tough 73-30 loss against Ohio County.
Trinity fell behind early as Ohio held them to 5 points in the first half, and they trailed 41-5. Their offense found rhythm in the third quarter as they scored 17 points, but Ohio extended their lead by scoring another 23. Ohio closed out the game at 73-30.
Branson Howard, Will Hernandez and Connor Hatfield led the Raiders in scoring with 6 points each.
