Girls’ Basketball recap (Feb. 6): AHS, OCHS, THS

Delaney Cooper scored her 1,000th point for the Lady Aces in their victory over Meade County. Apollo and Trinity suffered losses on the day against regional opponents Muhlenberg and Ohio County. 

Muhlenberg Co. 58, AHS 48

Jenna Dant and Jennifer Lee combined for 36 points in Apollo’s 58-48 defeat against Muhlenberg County. 

The early stages of the game saw the E-gals secure a small 9-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. Muhlenberg’s offense picked up momentum in the second quarter and they held AHS to 8 points while they scored 16 to lead 23-18 at halftime. Apollo’s offense found success on the scoring front in the third quarter, but they struggled to contain Muhlenberg as they were outscored 27-14. AHS held Muhlenberg to just 8 points in the final quarter, but their 16 points couldn’t close the gap and Apollo were defeated 58-48.

OCHS 81, Meade 61

Cooper reached the impressive 1,000 point milestone in the fourth quarter of Owensboro Catholic’s 81-61 win over Meade County. 

Owensboro Catholic held a 16-11 lead at the end of the first quarter, and they kicked up the tempo in the second quarter as they made 3 threes to contribute to their 21 points in the quarter. After leading 37-25 at halftime, The Lady Aces made 4 more threes to win the third quarter scoring battle 26-20. Despite being outscored 20-18, OCHS closed out the win 81-61.

Cooper scored 13 points to hoist her over 1,000 point landmark. Hailee Johnson led the Lady Aces in scoring with 2 threes and 20 points. Karmin Riley had 3 threes as part of her 13 points, and Jenna Krampe scored 13 points as well. Taylor Mannahan made 3 threes and a free throw for her 10 points on the night. 

Ohio Co. 60, THS 33

Sarah Payne led the Lady Raiders in scoring in their 33-60 loss against Ohio County. 

Trinity fell behind early as they trailed 16-8 at the end of the first quarter. They couldn’t get much going on offense, but the THS defense held Ohio to 9 points in the second quarter to trail 25-13 at halftime. The Lady Raiders found more success on offense as they scored 13 in the third quarter, but Ohio ran with their momentum and scored 21. Ohio closed out the game to take the win at 60-33.

Payne shot 10 of 13 from the free throw line as part of her 14 points to lead the Lady Raiders. Ella Morris followed behind with 11 points on the night.
