Daviess County’s Ryleigh Bevil was crowned Regional Champion in both the 200 Yard IM and the 100 Yard Breast. The 8th grader went into the weekend seeded 1st in both events, and she followed up by getting the gold medal in two events where she competed against high school-aged competitors.
DCHS head swim coach Jordan Loucks said Bevil’s achievement is almost unheard of, but he’s not too shocked that she took home the gold.
“A middle school athlete winning one region event isn’t too common, two events is almost unheard of,” he said. “However, we’re not too shocked. Ryleigh has been focused on this meet and qualifying for the high school state meet all season. She’s talented enough to compete with the older girls and she’s proving it this weekend.”
All local Owensboro schools had multiple swimmers place in the top 10 in almost every event at the regional meet. Final results that determine what individuals move on to the semi-state round will not be finalized until after Region 1 holds their regional meet on Feb. 10. Region 2 results are subject to change as championships for diving will be held on Feb. 6. Current results for local Owensboro Schools are as follows:
