Frank Clark Greathouse

March 4, 1936 - February 1, 2024

Frank Clark Greathouse, 87, passed away on February 1, 2024 while at the Heartford House.  He was born on March 5, l936, at home in Lewisport, KY.  He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Stephen Greathouse and his mother Lydia Greathouse; a sister, Michal Greathouse Hobbs, and a brother, Joseph S. Greathouse, Jr.

Frank is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty J. Greathouse; daughters Stephanie Greathouse, Annette (Billy) Bean, Jennifer (Tom) Renn and Suzanne (Lee) Anderson; grandchildren Kaitlin (Travis) Miller, Peyton Anderson, Martha (Zach) Brewer, Jesse Anderson; one great granddaughter Skylar Rose Miller along with nephews and nieces.

Frank graduated from The Lewisport Consolidated School, attended WKU, and graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan College, with a BA degree.  He then attended Evansville University and received a Master’s in Business Administration. He began his teaching career for Hawesville Consolidated School and after completing his BA degree he taught for KWC, OCTC and Brescia College in Owensboro. He was employed at W.R. Grace and Daramic, as controller, and retired after 39 years.

Frank was a lifelong member of the Lewisport United Methodist Church. He was the Sunday School Superintendent for many years.  He held many offices in the Church, he was Treasurer for over 20 years as well as a Sunday School Teacher for the senior members. He enjoyed these members and they all enjoyed having him as their teacher because when he spoke, they could hear and understand him.  He was a truly Godly man that let his faith guide his life and decisions and he raised his children in the same manner.

Serving his community was a priority for both he and Betty. Frank was mayor of Lewisport for 7 years and served as a City Council member before and after his tenure as Mayor. As a member of the Planning and Zoning Committee, many new improvements happened in Lewisport. He and his wife were members of three Mission Trip groups. They were able to travel to Puerto Rico, the Island of Elethura in the Bahamas and Moss Pointe in MS.

Frank loved all sports and played basketball and baseball for Lewisport Consolidated School. He went on to play baseball for KY Weslyan for a year. His love of basketball continued in his later years when he became an official. He refereed at the high school and college level for many years. KWC, WKU, UK and UL were some of the notable schools where he officiated. His sports passion continued as he became an avid, accomplished golfer. He so loved playing golf with his family and playing in all the local tournaments. He had the opportunity to attend the Masters Golf tournament several times and walk the course with Betty.

Lastly, one of the great joys of his life was being with his grandchildren and his new great granddaughter.

Services will be held at 2 pm on Monday, February 5, 2024 at Lewisport United Methodist Church with burial following in Lewisport Cemetery.  Frank’s family will be greeting friends on Monday at the church from 10 am until service time.  Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Frank to Lewisport UMC or the Heartford House.
