Boys’ Basketball recap (Jan. 30): DCHS, OHS, THS

Owensboro and Trinity went head-to-head in a regional showdown that saw the Red Devil prevail. Meanwhile, Daviess County added another win to their season after taking down regional opponent Muhlenberg County at home. 

DCHS 63, Muhlenberg Co. 48

Daviess County continues their good form with a 63-48 win over Muhlenberg County. 

Daviess County got an early lead after the first quarter ended 14-10. Defense got the best of both teams in the second quarter as Muhlenberg scored 9 to DC’s 8. DCHS went into halftime leading 22-19. The Panthers offense found their footing in the third quarter as they outscored Muhlenbberg 15-9. The final quarter saw both teams go out swinging as Daviess County won the scoring battle 26-20 to close out the win at 63-48.

Jonathan Moss led the Panthers in scoring with 21 points and 2 three pointers. Gage Phelps had the next highest points with 15, and he shot 5 of 7 from the free throw line. DeAaron Watkins followed close behind with 14 points on the night. 

OHS 85, THS 31

Owensboro had an 85-31 blowout victory over Trinity. 

Owensboro took control of the game early as they quickly established a 27-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. Hayden Aull kept THS on the scoreboard with 3 straight threes in the quarter. The Red Devils continued to overwhelm the Raiders in the second quarter as they held Trinity to 4 points while they extended their lead with 14 points. OHS closed out the win at 85-31. 

Leading the Red Devils in scoring was Keaton Hughes with 16 points. Courtland Howard and Michael Acton both scored 12 points, and Dayshaun Sanders scored 11 on the night as well. 

Leading the Raiders in scoring was Aull with 5 threes as part of his 17 points. The next highest scorer was Connor Hatfield with 7 points.
