James Edward “Jimmy” Stinnett, 59, of Lewisport, was welcomed into the arms of Our Savior on Monday January 29, 2024. He was born in Owensboro on June 16, 1964 to Charles Edward and Doris Williamson Stinnett.
Jimmy was employed at De Am Ron Building systems for 19 years then went to work at Century Aluminum until they shut down, then went back to De Am Ron. He loved working with his hands, especially working on the farm and tinkering with his tractors. He was a “Jack of all trades”. He was best known for his smile, work ethic and the fact that he didn’t know a stranger. He loved Our Lord and enjoyed having breakfast with his church brothers. However, his true calling was becoming a Firefighter as well as an EMT. He took great pride in responding to each call. He worked for Lewisport VFD before moving to Thruston Fire Department, then transferred to Yelvington Fire Department before finally coming back to Lewisport where, after careful thought and bad knees and back, he decided to hang up his gear.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Edward Stinnett.
James is survived by the love of his life, Carla Butler Stinnett; mother, Doris Stinnett; sister, Yvonne (Jim) Frisch; son, DJ Vowels along with his other children, Angel (Kris) Austin, Dwayn Austin, Alison (Avrin) Decker and Kelly Renfrow; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; many lifelong friends, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11 am on Friday, February 2, 2024 at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Lewisport Chapel with burial following in Lewisport Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 pm until 8 pm and Friday from 9 am until service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to a local Volunteer Fire Department.
