John Scott Smart, age 72 of Hardinsburg, KY passed away January 27, 2024 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born in Louisville, KY on April 13, 1951, son of the late Virginia Ann Moorman and John Scott Graves Smart, Jr. John graduated from the University of Kentucky and was a retired teacher with the Breckinridge County Board of Education. He was a member of Hardinsburg Baptist Church and Kentucky Retired Teachers Association. He was an avid UK fan, active with his church and enjoyed history. He was well known as a girls basketball, softball and volleyball official. John was excited to see the athletes learn the sport and was always fair and supportive in his job.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Connie, who died May 19, 1996.
John is survived by 2 children: Scott Smart of Hardinsburg, KY and Laura Smart of Madison, MS

Funeral services will be held at Hardinsburg Baptist Church on Friday, February 2, 2024 at 11 AM with burial in the Ivy Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home on Thursday, 3:30 – 7 PM and Friday, 8 – 10:30 AM. All times are central.
